Sunset and Moonrise

We needed a bit of warmth and and light. So off we went to Lanzarote. There we found both sunset …

Grass in the Desert

The landscape in The Timanfaya National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional de Timanfaya) on the island of Lanzarote has been compared to the surface of Mars. However, from time to time you do see some hardy plants cropping up. But since you are not allowed to walk around on your own, most photos have to be shot through the windows of the coaches – usually with less than satisfactory results. However, sometimes one is lucky, and with a little work one can get quite acceptable pictures (I think …).

“The Restaurant at the End of the Universe”

Timanfaya-5682I literally felt like a character from Douglas Adams’ famous book when I ate at a restaurant at the top of the active volcano Timanfaya – looking into another. The light from the setting sun just made it more interesting.

Timanfaya-5688And the gale force wind outside a little later made it even more surreal.

Arrecife -28301

Arrecife is the largest city on Lanzarote. The authorities on the island recommend that the doors and windows are painted brown, blue or green. I don’t know about the sweaters.

As in any other city, people may pass each other by without even looking

Or maybe the mobile phone gets all the attention when a nice girl walks by

Have a nice week-end!

An Island in the Sun

Playa Blanca strand-5542

It has been a bit quiet around here, but there are reasons. We have among other things spent some time on an Island in the Sun, in this case Lanzarote in Spain. Although sunshine and warmth dominate such trips, there are more than beaches and sand to be found on Lanzarote. Always nice for a hobby photographer.

Local fishermen brought the catch of the day to the shore for cleaning and gutting. More than one photographer was interested in this procedure …

Lanzarote is most famous for its many volcanoes. There are more than a hundred of them with even more craters. Luckily most of them are extinct and the last eruption was in 1824. This moon-like landscape is from the national-park Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. Once seen – never forgotten.

But there are also many other beautiful and quiet spots. This is from the village of Yaiza. It has several times been chosen as the prettiest village in Spain.

And of course there were sunsets …

Have a nice week!
